Greening Greenpoint is Hiring a Summer Intern

Greening Greenpoint is a four-year project launched in the fall of 2015. The goal of the project is to increase tree canopy cover and promote healthy, long-lived trees to increase the environmental benefits that trees offer. A large component of the project is to train and educate community members to inspire a lasting network of tree stewards. This project is made possible with funding provided by the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation through the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund.

About the internship

Greening Greenpoint is seeking a part time summer intern to join their team. There is no language requirement for the internship, although fluency in Polish or Spanish is preferred. The intern will learn how to identify and care for trees in the urban environment and gain experience in local community organizing and volunteer management.  

Hours and Pay:

  • 16 hours a week (including occasional weekend and evening events)
  • Start date: June 11 (flexible)
  • End date: August 3 (flexible)
  • $15.00 per hour


  • Perform general tree care tasks such as mulching, planting, watering and pruning
  • Assist in planning and leading tree care volunteer events in Greenpoint
  • Develop outreach strategy to the community in Greenpoint for local urban forestry initiatives
  • Draft newsletter and outreach flyers to promote events and initiatives 
  • Lead 2 tree care workshops


  • Excitement to learn about trees and community organizing
  • Rising sophomore, junior, or senior in college
  • General interest and passion for environmental issues

Preferred but not Required:

  • Fluent in both Polish or Spanish and English
